Marhnos accelerates recovery

El Financiero

2022 Nov 15

For Marhnos, the recovery of traffic on its concessioned highways and bridges has been accelerated during the past year and so far in 2022, due to increased passenger and cargo traffic on the border and the main cities of the country.

José Manuel Fortes, director of Highways Mexico at Marhnos, said that after the impact of COVID, traffic on the Anzalduas International Bridge, the Guadalajara-Colima Highway and the Villahermosa Bypass are at pre-pandemic levels or higher.

The Anzalduas International Bridge did register major damages since it is an infrastructure that serves to communicate two regions of different countries, he explained.

He explained that on this bridge, the Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT), prior to COVID, was about 3,500 vehicles and fell to 500 with the crisis. Although it took time to recover, he specified that today it has its best level with traffic of 3,900 to 4,000 units.

On the Guadalajara-Colima Highway, the average monthly flow went from 44,000 cars in circulation in 2019 to 14,000 cars. Today, the AADT ranges from 14,500 cars to 14,800 per day.

The case of the Villahermosa Bypass, this undoubtedly received a strong affectation during the pandemic, but since cargo transport is the one that mostly circulates this infrastructure, the affectation was not felt as much; capacity of 7,000 vehicles per day, there did come times when it fell to 3,000, he said.

He commented that Marhnos will open a new section for BANOBRAS in this bypass, which connects with the Tabasco Airport.
